The increase in production volumes and internal material handling has led to a rise in the movement of people, materials, and forklifts within the Chiesi plant, increasing the risk of interference in operational areas.
For the management department, it was essential to identify a solution capable of enhancing safety both in production departments and warehouse areas, protecting operators and visitors without slowing down daily activities and ensuring maximum operational continuity.
In the most critical corridors across the production areas, where forklifts and pedestrians frequently interact, AMESPHERE GATE systems were installed to automatically manage vehicle speed in high-risk areas. When a forklift is detected approaching a controlled area, the system automatically reduces its speed, helping prevent hazardous situations.
In addition, AMESPHERE sensors can temporarily control doors and access points while vehicles are passing through the corridors, protecting pedestrians moving between offices and laboratories without disrupting normal production flows. Internal traffic therefore remains smooth and operational, with automatic control in the areas where risk is highest.
In Chiesi warehouse, three-wheel forklifts were equipped with an all-in-one collision avoidance solution that detects people and obstacles in real time within maneuvering areas, alerting operators to potential risk situations through LED light indicators — a solution specifically designed for applications involving compact vehicles.
To further enhance people protection, Chiesi also extended TAG technology to external visitors. Doctors, students, consultants, and other guests are provided with an AMESPHERE TAG, enabling mutual detection between pedestrians and forklifts and improving safety even in areas with limited visibility. As a result, no guest is left unprotected during their time at the plant.
The implementation of AMESPHERE enabled Chiesi to strengthen safety in response to the increased traffic of people and vehicles, adapting the technologies to the specific characteristics of different environments without compromising operational continuity.
Operator involvement also supported the identification of additional areas requiring protection, contributing to a progressive approach to safety focused on continuous improvement.
The experience gained led Chiesi to plan the expansion of the solutions to new departments and integrate the AMESPHERE Platform, combining on-site protection with data-driven safety management to monitor operational dynamics, measure safety performance and guide improvement actions over time.
