R2| No-contact moisture and consistency meter
Non contact remote microwave sensor, can be used in any point of the pulp machine where an high accuracy and direct measure of the moisture content in the pulp sheet is needed, eg. exit press section, dry section, etc.. Wide range from 400 to 1500 gsmH20 with a resolution down to 0.1 gsm and immunity from different parameters allow high measurement accuracy and reliability.
Quality – Efficiency - Runnability
Achieving consistency at the end of the press section is very important for process control purposes in modern pulp production. It is well-known that the water content at that point is critical in the paper production process because of the direct impact this has on the operation of the dryer section with potentially significant effects on energy consumption. The machine’s runnability is also greatly affected by this parameter.
The R1 measures the moisture content in the pulp sheet, in-line, making a reliable water content value available directly to the machine’s control system. No contact with the sheet itself is needed and no recalibration is required with a grammage production change. The RAMS R2 has reduced dimensions and is installed very easily.
The R1 also has superior tolerance to sheet oscillation and is completely independent from other sheet properties like colour and type of fibre.
Unique patented technology
Thanks to its patented technology, the R2 can detect water content, without touching the sheet, by emitting a low power microwave signal. Microwaves are not affected by the colour of the sheet or the type of fibre used or any ambient noise. This innovative approach allows the R2 to deliver highly reliable values even with temperature changes and sheet oscillation. Furthermore, no calibration is needed during operation.
The system has two parts: the sensor and reflector. They are positioned one on each side of the sheet.
The reflector is a completely passive device with no electrical connection needed and a thickness of less than 4cm. The sensor has a single electrical connector used for the power supply and data communication with a single UTP-type cable.
The R2 sensor measures the water content with accuracy, keeping a safe distance from the sheet without creating interference in the sheet’s path.
The R2 sensor is connected to the AMS HUB and the data is transmitted to the machine’s control system. With the optional software suite, advanced analysis can be done to evaluate complex phenomena on the sheet.
The data collected from each sensor is saved in memory for easy review. Easy connection to the existing mill control system through flexible, analogue output (VOLTAGE or CURRENT)
Thanks to the system’s accuracy and high rate of measurement, advanced analysis can be performed on the raw sensor data to help isolate issues in the process
