The aim of the AMS R1-Lab is to give a fast and reliable measurement of the consistency of a sample of the material.
The AMS R1-Lab comes with a measuring unit that enables measurements to be done with the maximum accuracy and reproducibility.

Unique patented technology

The AMS R1 Lab has a sensor to measure the water content in sheets of pulp or paper.
This sensor works with a proprietary patented technology, based on Remote Active Microwave Sensors (RAMS), that allows fast, accurate and  environment independent” moisture content measurements.
The sensor is based on an advanced measurement concept that
uses an innovative microwave reflection technique that delivers high performance in terms of:
Resolution –  Accuracy – Immunity from any environmental interference such as vibration – temperature, humidity and dust.

Ease of use

The AMS R1-Lab is very easy to use; the operator just needs to take an A4 format sample of the material to be tested, initialise the instrument before starting a new measurement, place the sample on the appropriate support, and then insert the support into the instrument and start the measurement.
The moisture value will be displayed immediately on the screen since the measuring system is not based on any time-consuming drying process. The touch screen display has an intuitive menu system which allows the operator to perform all the necessary functions such as, for example, initialising the  nstrument or calculating consistency.
Thanks to the high rate of measurement and the system’s performance, the value of water contained in the sample is measured in real time and shown on the display in terms of water density (g/m2) and humidity (%).

Use directly close to the paper machine

The ability to make fast, frequent checks of the moisture content is very important in the production process. That is why the AMS R1 Lab can be installed close to the paper machine, in order to perform measurements as soon as the operator takes a sample from the machine thereby minimising the change in moisture content due to evaporation or handling. In this way, fast and reliable feedback can be given to the production process control.
The AMS R1-Lab has a wide range of measurement (0-800 g/m2) enabling use of the instrument along the entire paper machine, measuring the moisture content in the sheet of paper at every relevant section along the machine, starting from the end of the press section.

This allows the operator to verify and control numerous machine
settings thus allowing:

  • better product quality
  • better machine runnability
  • lower energy consumption
